The Short Version

  • We collect only what you choose to give us: a message, a donation, or your email for updates.
  • Donations go through PayPal. We never see or store your card or bank numbers.
  • No ad trackers, no analytics, and we never sell or rent your information.
  • You can unsubscribe, ask to see or delete your information, or be listed as "Anonymous" at any time.

Who we are

The Historic Housing Foundation (HHF) is a small 501c3 nonprofit that supports the preservation of the Delta Chi Minnesota Chapter House at 1601 University Ave SE in Minneapolis. This policy explains what personal information we collect through thehhf.org, how we use it, and the choices you have.

When you contact us

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject, and your message. When you send it, the form emails your message to HHF so we can read it and write back. We use what you send only to reply to you and follow up on your request.

When you donate

Online gifts are made on PayPal's secure donation page, not on our website. PayPal collects your payment details, and HHF never sees or stores your card or bank account numbers.

PayPal shares your name, email address, gift amount and date, and any note you add with us, so we can thank you, send your tax receipt, and keep accurate nonprofit records. PayPal's own privacy statement covers the information you give PayPal.

If you mail a check, we keep the information on it (your name, address, and gift amount) for the same purposes.

Donor recognition

We like to say thank you in public. Donors' names may appear on our Contributor Wall and on commemorative bricks, along with their brick numbers. We don't publish individual gift amounts. Because each brick stands for a $1,000 contribution, though, the number of bricks next to a name reflects that level of giving.

If you'd rather be listed as "Anonymous," want your name spelled differently, or want to be removed from the online list, just let us know through our contact page or by mail.

Email updates

We send occasional updates and fundraising appeals to Delta Chi Minnesota chapter members and supporters. We use Mailchimp to send these emails. Mailchimp stores your name and email address and tells us whether a message was opened and which links were clicked, which helps us avoid sending things people don't want.

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also ask us to take you off the list through our contact page. Mailchimp's privacy practices are described in Intuit's privacy statement.

Cookies and site data

We don't use advertising or analytics trackers. There's no Google Analytics, Facebook (Meta) pixel, or similar tracking on our pages, and we don't build profiles of visitors.

  • Functional cookies. WordPress and the plugins that run the site may set a few small cookies needed for the site to work, for example to keep our site administrators signed in. They aren't used for tracking or advertising, so we don't show a cookie banner.
  • Server logs. Like nearly every website, our web host automatically records basic technical details about visits, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you requested. The host uses these logs to keep the site running and secure.
  • Page caching. Our host's caching (LiteSpeed) saves ready-made copies of our pages so they load faster. It doesn't identify you.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the public parts of the site will still work.

Other services we use

A few parts of the site come from other companies, and those companies have their own privacy policies:

  • Google Fonts. Our typefaces load from Google's servers, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and browser details.
  • Google Maps. The map on our contact page is embedded from Google Maps, and Google may collect information when it loads or when you use it.
  • PayPal handles all online donations, as described above.
  • Facebook. We link to our Facebook page. Nothing from Facebook loads until you click the link, and once you're on Facebook, its policies apply.

See Google's privacy policy for how Google handles this information.

How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with the service providers named in this policy (PayPal, Mailchimp, and our web and email providers) so they can do their jobs for us, or when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Messages are kept as long as we need them to answer you and follow up.
  • Donation records are kept as long as needed for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
  • Email list details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.
  • Donor wall names stay up until you ask us to change or remove them.

Keeping it secure

The whole site is served over a secure HTTPS connection, and payments are handled entirely by PayPal. No website or online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.

Your choices

You can ask us at any time to:

  • see the personal information we hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete your information (we may need to keep some donation records for tax and legal reasons)
  • stop sending you emails (or use the unsubscribe link in any email)
  • list your name as "Anonymous" on the Contributor Wall, or remove it

Just reach out through our contact page or by mail.

Children's privacy

This site is meant for adults and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us information, please contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we start using a new service. When we do, we'll post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date at the top.
